Find chronic relief,
finally.

Did you know?

We experience sensations like pain or stiffness when our brain floods certain parts of the body with nerve signals, telling organs like pain receptors or muscle groups to work in overdrive. Botox is able to intercept these overactive signals and alleviate the symptoms of various conditions including headache, excessive sweating and teeth clenching.

‘Botox’ is the generic term for neuromodulators that contain the active ingredient botulinum protein. The term is derived from the brand of the same name, but it is also sold as Dysport® and Nuceiva®.

Botox for Teeth Clenching + Grinding
(Bruxism, TMD)

If you wake up with a stiff jaw or catch yourself clenching your teeth throughout the day, you may be suffering from bruxism. Excessive clenching or grinding can lead to headaches, tooth wear, and jaw disorders if left untreated. Bruxism can be a symptom of anxiety + stress, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD or TMJ), malocclusion (abnormal bite), or sleep apnea.

If you think you might have bruxism, consult your family doctor to identify and treat any underlying conditions and ask your dentist how you can protect your teeth and gums.

Botox can alleviate symptoms of pain, stiffness and headaches when injected to muscles along the jaw and sides of the head.

Bruxism can also cause enlarged masseter muscles that make the jaw appear wide and heavy.

Botox for bruxism slims the jaw down as it causes the jaw muscles to shrink over time.

Patients experience improvement in symptoms in 2-3 weeks, with the maximum effect about 6-7 weeks after the initial treatment. Effects usually last 6-9 months.

Botox for Excessive Sweating
(Hyperhidrosis, Frey’s Syndrome)

Hyperhidrosis refers to an overactive cooling mechanism that causes the body to sweat up to 5 times more than necessary. Excessive sweating can be embarrassing, uncomfortable, and disruptive to all aspects of daily life. Hyperhidrosis afflicts nearly 5% of people worldwide, but a lack of awareness and education means that few are ever diagnosed or treated.

Botox® blocks the nerve signals that tell sweat glands to produce sweat. Botox treatments can reduce excessive sweating of the underarms, hands, feet, face and scalp. Results are apparent in 2-4 days and usually last 6-9 months.

Frey's Syndrome is a condition where nerves that should connect to the salivary glands incorrectly activate nearby sweat glands instead. This causes the afflicted person to sweat excessively while eating, drinking or even thinking about food.

Reduction in gustatory sweating after treatment lasts 12 months or longer, although it may last several years for some patients.

Botox for Redness + Facial Flushing
(Erythema, Rosacea)

Redness results from an increased blood flow to the superficial blood vessels in the skin.

Facial Flushing refers to episodes of redness coupled with sensations of warmth (usually in the face and neck). Flushing can lead to permanent redness and visible blood vessels if untreated.

Both redness and flushing can be caused by weather, exercise, certain foods, or as side effects of some medications. They could also be symptoms of conditions like rosacea, menopause, and thyroid disorders.

Botox injections to areas of redness and flushing can block the nerve signals that trigger these symptoms. Most patients experience a reduction in redness and fewer episodes of flushing within 2-3 weeks after treatment, lasting up to 6 months.

Botox for Chronic Headache + Migraine

Botox is a Health Canada approved treatment for adults who suffer from chronic migraine headaches.

By blocking the chemical pathways associated with headache and migraine symptoms, ongoing treatments with Botox can reduce the number of episodes you have and increase the total number of pain-free days.

Treatment of medical conditions using Botox is temporary and requires retreatment once symptoms return.
If covered by your health plan, an injection fee will be charged (not usually recoverable) and a prescription will be furnished for ongoing treatment as a patient of Dr. Maloney.
Treatment results may vary.
Approval for treatment is based on individual eligibility.
